Frida! Well I am back! Exhausted and going to bed very very very shortly. I have been catching up with your blog. I am so sorry. I think its hard to care about people and do the work that you do without a black dog. Ah .... but that blessed dog - when it creeps up slowly - eats away at identities and values and hopes. Simple things become confusing or overwelming. You start questioning yourself in the process.At least that is my experience.But comiserating won't do you any good. Its hole and you have to and WILL climb back up. I do think a bit part of it is the job and all that it entails. You have to remember that you are what is important at this stage and do whatever you need to do to take of yourself - first and foremost. Otherwise you will struggle to take care of others and feel that you are letting youself down.You know, I don't really know you and I realize while writing this - that I am presuming so much (too much perhaps). My heart goes out to you. Sigh ... I wish I could give you a hug right now ... so I am sending one through cyberspace.(((((hug)))))

Great photos, Frida! I find your images and stories so interesting. Aside from the buffet sign (open for four hours in total?), I would never imagined them to be from Afghanistan. They could be from New York! Is the bottom photo of the globe with doves a recent creation?

Wonderful pictures! And how I envy you that bread. It looks divine. On my computer desktop I have a picture of my husband and me at our favorite Indian restaurant, so I constantly have to glimpse a tantalizing platter full of naan. Ooh, I'm getting hungry! (also, left you a belated comment below.)

lovely pictures of the beautiful Herat. Last time i was in herat was in 2003 for collecting interviews for a radio feature for my job with the BBC in Afghanistan.
